SHERIDAN COLLEGE                  OAKVILLE, ONT., CANADA                   CAT ANIMATION - 1997

  • Stills from a Cat Animation using Softimage. In my final project I really wanted to concentrate on a complex and realistic animation.; I strived to make the  movement of the cat sitting up, stretching, walking, jumping and pausing as realistic as possible. The skeletal set-up of the bony stray cat became quite complex to create due to the different behaviours of the eyes, torso, legs mouth and tail .

  • At the time fur shader technology was just gaining ground and expensive to render at the time. Since the animation was really about the movement of the cat, I chose to use a series of blended maps for fur.

SHERIDAN COLLEGE                  OAKVILLE, ONT., CANADA                   YTV Animation - 1997

  • Our first animation project. This crazy animation of a fly chasing a teddy bear in a car with a modeled church was really just a combination of projects joined together to make one.
  • I experimented with Forward Kinematics with the Teddy Bear, the motion of the car skidding around the streets, The skeletal setup and cyclical path animation of a bat, organic architecture and a certain mood and lighting that I wanted to create.

  • This cartoon like fly was motion tracked using Softimage Eddie.
  • Using a steady cam I ran in and out of cars at Queen and John in Toronto for the footage. This live footage was used as a background for the fly animation.

  • Using Softimage and creating artificial mirrors created in CG I superimposed shadow and reflection on to the cars around. Due to the speed of the animation and the lack of realism in the fly model, this effect was exaggerated.

  • I was invited to stay for the summer . In this short project I concentrated on a simple lift animation to experiment with weight on a character.
  • The background scene was drawn by hand and coloured in photoshop as a fun backdrop to a weird scene. Enki Bilal (a french comic book artist) inspired alien like creature.
